Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - an interesting morning with 39 species recorded including - singing Chiff-Chaff, scrap over Kestrel box with two females involved, Redpoll, Reed Bunting, Bullfinch and up to 12 Brambling. Mid-morning 100 plus Pinkfeet flew west fairly low below the mist.

A very enjoyable hour and half spent around Bradup in  the afternoon:
Pheasant 10+, Pied Wagtail 10+, Oystercatcher 2 (they did not linger), Curlew 5+, Lapwing 50+ (lots displaying), Meadow Pipit 20+, Snipe 3 (two drumming), Red Grouse 6+, Skylark 1
No Wheatears seen.

Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - Sand Martin, 4 Brambling, pair of Bullfinch, pair of Kestrel, Curlew, 2 Lesser B B & 6 Oystercatchers flew past, Redpolls on feeders, Reed Bunting singing.

Four Wheatears (2males and 2 females) in the usual area at the bottom of Birch Close Lane.  They seem to like the newly dug ditch and the old wall.  There was a flock of 11 Sky Lark feeding on a fairway and two more singing nearby.  Six Golden Plovers tried to land amongst the Lapwings but they were moved on.

Long Liberty Farm near Beaver Dyke Reservoir - at 4.30 this afternoon, a Firecrest was seen near the bottom of the public footpath.

Glovershaw - Three more Wheatears on the Golf Course and at least seven pairs of Sky Larks on Pennithorne Hill.  Meadow Pipits are displaying and five pairs of Curlew were on Golcar Fields in addition to Snipe and Oystercatcher flying in from Weecher.

On a cold, bright, blustery morning, three male Wheatears were on the Golf Course with up to 10 Skylarks.  In the fields near Golcar Farm up to 20 pairs of Lapwing had settled on territory where two pairs of Curlews, a few Snipe, two pairs of Grey Partridge and a pair of Stock Dove were feeding. A pair of Reed Bunting also flew over.

Hirst Wood - It certainly felt like the first day of spring this morning with a nice selection of breeding species recorded.  These included three pairs of Treecreepers, three pairs of Nuthatches, 1 pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers, four pairs of Jay, including the spectacle of four birds on one branch and two pairs of Mistle Thrush, one pair of which were busily carrying moss to their chosen site.  Two female Goosanders were fishing in the river, a Grey Wagtail flitted about near the weir and eight Redwings fed in the pasture.

Riddlesden Garden  

 Brambling, Siskin, and Redpoll have been regular  daily visitors to  my feeders for much of the winter. They do not venture far during the daytime , sitting in trees in my own and my neighbours gardens.The numbers seen today are fairly typical.
On my  feeders today ,3 Brambling (1m +2f),  5 Bullfinch, 8 Siskin, 6 Redpoll. Both male and female Blackcap still putting in a daily appearance.

One singing Chiff Chaff yesterday at about 17.30, near Cottingley.  It was by the River Aire, just beyond the A650 bypass flyover (on the Hirst Wood side).  The first of the spring!

Beaverdyke Reservoir - no water & plenty of disturbance but in Spruce Wood next to it, singing Goldcrest, Siskin, Redpoll & Coal Tit, GSW drumming& Sparrowhawk. 25 Curlew in field above wood.
John o'Gaunts Reservoir - 3 Redshank, 25 Teal, 6 Tufted, 2 Oystercatchers, 4 Lapwing, 8 Greylag & 28 Canadas.

Spring Wood, between Baildon and Hawksworth
Two Little Owls were disturbed along the path from the White House into the wood and nine Fieldfare also flew off.  In the wood, a commotion involving four Jays was soon resolved when one these birds emerged, clinging onto the back of a male Sparrowhawk.

Two pairs of Little Grebes and ten Moorhens were on the lake.  Nearby, a pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers were drumming lightly, calling and chasing each other.

Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - 34 species recorded including - Water Rail, pair of Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, 3 Redpoll, pair of Bullfinch, 4 Reed Bunting, pair of Stock Dove. Nest built by Long-tailed Tits now completed. Also two butterflies seen probably Speckled Wood.

On very gloomy morning there were at least 12 pairs of Lapwings on territory in the fields around Golcar Farm.  There was also a pair of Grey Partridge feeding alongside a flock of 150 Starlings.  At least two pairs of Snipe flew up and around their breeding area and a two pairs of Curlew probed the soft ground.  Two pairs of Oystercatchers could be seen across Birch Close Lane and a pair of Red Grouse flew from a grassy bank.  A Reed Bunting persistently sang from a low tree, Sky Larks were on the wing and Meadow Pipits were active.

In addition to the birds mentioned by Paul, I had a pair of Linnet at Faweather Farm with one of the birds singing plus 2 hares near Weecher.
